Your request (request)
The request this time was to learn mindfulness meditation as part of a program to provide employees with a "special experience" as part of a company off-site meeting.
The participants were all busy people who were constantly straining their brains to do their jobs. They were not mentally exhausted, but rather had an energetic and lively air about them, and they also had a need to learn how to "rest their brains" to feel refreshed, improve their concentration, and make it easier to work.
Additionally, the program had to be delivered in both Japanese and English so that it could be easily understood in a global environment.
Program Content
In order to deepen understanding of mindfulness, we have devised a balanced combination of theory and practice to ensure that participants do not become bored while learning.
◼️ Theory
What is Mindfulness? Its History and Background
Types of meditation and their characteristics
Scientifically proven benefits of meditation (health, performance improvement, EQ improvement, etc.)
What does it mean to "rest your brain"? An explanation from the perspective of neuroscience
◼️ Practical Edition
Sitting meditation: A basic meditation in which you focus on your breathing while sitting.
Counting meditation: Meditation to strengthen concentration while counting numbers
Walking meditation: A meditation that can be easily practiced in everyday life to adjust your awareness while moving
In addition, after each practice session, we always had time for "Inquiry" (reflection dialogue) to deepen awareness and help with introspection. This time was a valuable learning opportunity not only for the speaker but also for the listeners, and was a method that helped them gain new perspectives.
After the program
This training was held in a beautiful and well-equipped hotel venue that is also used as a wedding venue. The quiet and calm environment made it easy for the participants to concentrate.
Throughout the event, there was a friendly and bright atmosphere, and it was impressive to see the participants working hard while relaxing. In particular, during the "Inquiry" session, participants proactively spoke up, and many new realizations were drawn out by answering questions with words. It felt like the psychological safety of the workplace was firmly secured, and because the environment was set up so that participants could speak up without worry, it seemed like the introspection deepened even more.
In addition, I think that the very act of "experiencing mindfulness" through practice brought about fresh realizations. I think that experiencing the effects of meditation helped me to recognize the importance of "resting the brain" in my daily work, and became an opportunity to incorporate it into my daily life.
I am truly grateful for this opportunity. I will continue to work hard every day to contribute to improving the performance and well-being of workers.
